Project management is the discipline of organizing and managing resources in such a way that these resources deliver all the work required to complete a project within defined scope, time, and cost constraints.

  • Scope Control
  • Repeatable Project Successes

Amberwood has over 20 years of experience in the Project Management arena.  Beginning in the early '80's, Amberwood's owner began his career in structured methodologies and has been a proponent of project management ever since.

Amberwood Consulting follows the principles of the Project Management Institute in all projects, both technical or non-technical.

All projects have one or more goals and timelines.  These goals and timelines need to be identified and broken out into their constituent parts.  Amberwood will create a complete project book if brought into a project at the start.  If brought in after the project has begun, we will examine the project documents and ensure they are complete and accurate, and then maintain them until completion of the project.

When all the tasks are identified and delivery dates have been defined, Amberwood will manage the tasks to ensure they are being completed on time. If there are any slippages in time or costs, the proper personnel will be notified as soon as the delay is identified. Amberwood will work to mitigate the project risks on a daily basis and will perform hands-on management when required.
Regular reporting and keeping of project artifacts is accomplished within your guidelines. Projects will be closed out as soon as the required post-implementation is completed, budgets will be closed as applicable.

Scope creep is the highest contributor to project delays and cost overruns.  Requirements can change during the course of  projects, due either to a change in business requirements or because of unidentified functionality during the gathering of requirements.  In many cases, the project team will attempt to accommodate the changes and build in the new functionality without identifying the impact on deadlines or budget.
Changes occur, we all understand this, but it's how these changes are handled that is important.  Amberwood will document the requested changes and assess the impact on the project.  If there is a change in the delivery date or a potential for a change to the cost, the changes will be discussed to the project Champion and Sponsor for their advise and approval.
As programming is about to begin, change management will be instituted making it mandatory for all change requests be put in writing and a review meeting will be held to discuss impacts on the business and project. The result of the meeting will be a decision of how to proceed.

During the project, a record of lessons learned will be kept for future reference with other projects.  A standard project methodology will be adopted, if one is not in place at the current time. Improvements to current methodology will be identified and suggested.

Project team members will be mentored and knowledge transferred to them so they will be equipped in future to proceed with projects on their own, reducing your reliance on outside consultants.
